KINGS OF THRACE. Lysimachos, 305-281 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 29 mm, 17.18 g, 3 h), Lysimacheia, circa 297/6-282/1. Diademed head of Alexander the Great to right, with horn of Ammon over his ear. Rev. ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ - ΛΥΣΙΜΑΧΟΥ Athena seated left, holding Nike, crowning the king's name, in her right hand and leaning with her left arm on shield decorated with lion's head; behind, transverse spear; in inner left field, head of a lion to left; on throne, monogram. Dewing 1351. HGC 3.2, 1750a. Müller 51. SNG Fitzwilliam 1848. Thompson 16. An exceptional, beautifully toned piece. Sharply struck on excellent metal and with a bold portrait of distinctive style. Thin flan crack, otherwise, good extremely fine.
